The post Gambling in Rwanda: Everything You Need to Know as A Resident or Tourist appeared first on africantape.com.
]]>Although gambling in Rwanda has been legalized since 2011, there are still a few specificities residents and tourists should get familiar with. This way, they will avoid any potential legal problems. Below, we will present relevant information regarding the gambling laws in the African country and will mention all betting activities people in Rwanda are permitted to lay bets on. As a reader, you will also discover details with respect to the most popular licensed gambling companies in Rwanda.
Gambling in Rwanda became legal in 2011 with the introduction of Law Number 58. The authority that oversees all gambling activity in the country is the Gambling Board within the Ministry of Trade and Industry, which was formed in 2013. Ever since the establishment of the Board, digital license numbers became legal, as well. At present, there are many operating gambling companies in Rwanda, including:
All companies and operators who wish to obtain a license granted by the Gambling Board should have an immaculate reputation. In other words, those who have already been denied a license will not be able to get one. Plus, if the respective company or person has been involved in any criminal activity, they will again get a rejection.
As for bettors, there are a few things they should take into account, as well. First and foremost, winnings generated from gambling are subject to taxation. Players are obliged to pay a 15% withholding tax. Operators, on the other hand, must pay a 13% tax on the gross gaming revenue. Players under the age of 18 are not permitted to access land-based gambling houses. Minors will also be unable to register on any online casino that holds a license issued by the respective authority in Rwanda.
At present time, the most popular form of gambling in Rwanda is sports betting. This activity is completely legal and everyone who is of legal age is permitted to engage in online or offline sports betting. However, residents of the country are advised to only gamble at licensed facilities and sites. Even though wagering at non-licensed offshore platforms is not forbidden, the risks associated with it are too many.
Premier Bet and AfricaBet are two of the most popular betting facilities in the country. Not only can Rwandan players visit the local betting shops, but they can also register on the respective websites and lay their bets whenever they want. Since 4G was introduced in the country, gamblers now have the opportunity to play at any time of the day or night, no matter what their location is.
A few of the most popular sports listed in virtual sportsbooks include football, volleyball, table tennis, basketball, and tennis. Depending on the site, however, customers may find many other minor disciplines, including beach volleyball, Gaelic hurling, and so on. The number of betting types is usually dependable on the particular sport, league, and event.
Apart from sports betting, people residing in Rwanda can also bet on casino games. Even though there is only one physical gambling facility that features machines, namely Casino Kigali, the websites that offer such services are many. On such platforms, players will find numerous online slots, as well as table games. Betting on bingo is also allowed, and users are usually presented with a few different variations.
Undeniably, however, the majority of active gamblers prefer to try out their luck with the available digital machines. Poker, which is another prominent casino game, is also part of the assortments of several licensed online casinos accessible to Rwandan players. Tourists who visit the country for a particular period of time will also be allowed to gamble.
Even though Rwanda is a country that is considered gambling-friendly, there are a few restrictions all should be familiar with. The good thing is that there aren’t many limitations for bettors in the country. However, all operators should get a license before being permitted to provide wagering services to their potential customers. One of the most important constraints all bettors should be aware of is the fact that they are not allowed to bet on any so-called blood sports. The list of such disciplines includes but is not limited to:
And secondly, operators without a gambling license issued by the Gambling Board within the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Rwanda, are not allowed to offer any kinds of gambling services to people. As mentioned at the beginning, obtaining a license is not an easy task, and in order to get one, the company must have an immaculate standing.
Apart from these two points, there is nothing illegal when it comes to betting in Rwanda. Of course, people under the age of 18 should not initiate to take part in any gambling activity offline or online. That may lead to serious consequences both for the player and the operator.

]]>Over the next almost 15 years, PayPal would grow on its own to, arguably, be just as big and important as eBay itself. And, much like how eBay originally started out like a site for trading collectibles before evolving into a global marketplace, PayPal itself started as a site where you could easily pay for goods on eBay (or securely and conveniently get your money back if something went wrong), it evolved into a service you could use to pay for anything with. Want to pay your bills with PayPal? Go nuts! Want to order some food? PayPal has you covered! The only thing you can’t pay for is… Well, online casino deposits. And don’t get me wrong, many markets, like the UK, have plenty of casinos that accept PayPal – just look at pcasinos.co.uk if you don’t believe me! In South Africa, however, has none. Why is that? Well, the truth may lie in the fact that, even though PayPal technically does have a limited presence in South Africa (mostly by virtue of working with First National Bank to allow accounts to link up to PayPal profiles), it still doesn’t do the most elementary of things, like accept ZAR as a currency – at least it didn’t the last time I checked. Considering that, it’s pretty easy to see why PayPal wouldn’t be as popular here, and as a result online casinos would be reluctant to work with it. Still, PayPal is a FANTASTIC service, through and through, so here’s hoping that things will be able to change sooner rather than later.

]]>I came up with a plan for Afiríyie but decided to write about this important matter here as well because no one is immune to falling into an addiction, no matter if gambling or some else. Think you might be addicted to gambling but you aren’t sure? Try this cool Gamble Aware quiz and find out if there’s something you need to worry about.
Before you start playing casino games, do yourself a favour and read through the websites of specialised organisations, such as GamCare and Gamble Aware. You could refer to the many useful articles on those sites when someone you love has a gambling problem as well. However, if they do have a problem, it’s likely that they don’t realise it and, in that case, they won’t probably admit it. Be gentle in your approach – support them without judging, accusing or threatening them. Finally, if the matter is that serious that it goes beyond your control, do not hesitate to seek professional help. After all, addictive behaviours are considered a psychological problem and therapists are well-equipped to manage the symptoms and get to the root cause.
But, whatever you do, don’t get discouraged from playing casino games. You wouldn’t stop crossing the road using a zebra crossing because someone got hit by a car while jaywalking, would you? Casino games can be an extremely valuable recreational activity and can bring you some cash as well. It’s all a matter of self-control and sound judgement. However, you should only play at licensed online casinos and while we’re at it, why not play at the top casinos? If you want to learn how to tell which the best casinos are, have a look at topcasinos.org.uk.
On the topic of addictions, you can get addicted to practically anything. For example, I had a girlfriend who was obsessed with eating right. She calls it “clean eating” but scientists have a different name – Orthorexia Nervosa. Also, some of my mates hit the gym daily. Though they want to get buff, taking it to the extreme means they might have an exercise addiction. “What am I picking at them for,” you might ask, “Healthy food and exercise are good for you. They’re not drug addicts!” Well, no matter how healthful something might be, getting addicted to it is wrong because there’s no such thing as a positive addiction.

]]>Well, the answer, as is often the case with African gambling, is complicated, but thanks to the National Gambling Board we’ve got it. When it comes to physical bingo, it really depends on where you live, because as it turns out there’s only a single province which has licensed bingo – Gauteng. KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and the North West are also technically accepting applications, but no licenses have been issued thus far, as far as I know. Gauteng currently has 17 licenses, 11 of which are active, so that’s not exactly a huge choice, but it’s most certainly better than nothing! If you live outside of Gauteng, though, I’m afraid that, unless you’d be willing to travel, your bingo dreams will remain just that – dreams… Or will they?
Enter our old pal the online casino! Now, as you know, online casinos (and, by extension, online bingo sites) can be pretty weird, depending on them and on your territory. Some only service clients from their own region, others are open internationally – even to territories where gambling is typically forbidden. I actually wasn’t sure about what the situation was in relation to South Africa, so I had to do some research, and the answer is, you guessed it, complicated. But the good news is that you can probably play online bingo without much issue no matter where you are in South Africa. Most sites, even the ones not based in South Africa, are pretty open to international players, and the ones that aren’t will tell you so in plain text the moment you try to enter and they detect your IP address. Many international sites, such as Paddy Power and Foxy Bingo, have explicitly gone out of their way to welcome South African players, so you should be fine! Now stop reading and go play some bingo!

]]>Gambling is, in essence, a risk vs reward kind of system. The greater the risk, the greater the reward. Most people, who only play for fun, try to minimize the risk by playing small bets. High rollers are the opposite – they place gigantic bets with the intention of getting a nice reward. But while most of us don’t place too much mind in our bets (“Hmm, last time I bet on black, so maybe I’ll bet on red this time, because why not”), high rollers’ bets are very well calculated in order to minimize the risk while maximizing the reward. Generally, the people who can afford to be high rollers have turned gambling into nothing short of an art form, and few things are as fascinating or enlightening as learning their thought process as they prepare to make a move.
Of course, casinos love high rollers, and why wouldn’t they? Sometimes, one high roller can bring them more profits than fifty regular players! That’s why a lot of casinos have a high roller deposit bonus, which increases your bonus to levels you’d never be able to see as a regular player if you deposit beyond a certain amount. Additionally, many have tables in their live casino section which are exclusive to high rollers, requiring a certain minimum bet before you can play. There’s plenty of online casinos recommended for high rollers, so it’s not hard to find one which works out for you, if you’re interested in high rolling. Be warned, though – being a high roller is a GIGANTIC risk, and unless you’ve got a huge amount of disposable income it’s not recommended that you try it. As you know, spending more than you can on casino is a major sign that you’re suffering from gambling addiction. If, however, you believe that you’ve got the skills and the finances necessary to try your hand at high rolling, then by all means give it a shot!

]]>My name is Kinfe Tekle, and I currently live in South Africa. I’ve been gambling for a really long time, mostly in physical casinos, but recently I’ve started getting into online casinos as well. And, believe it or not, I like the online versions a whole lot more! I mean, don’t get me wrong, physical casinos are fine for what they are – a good excuse to go out and have some fun with friends – but you can’t exactly go there, spin a slot a few times and then go home, right? You need to be there for the whole thing. Meanwhile, if you have a few rands in your pocket and decide to try out your luck, you can always go online and just bet what you have without the pressure for a full commitment. It’s great!
On this blog I’m going to be outlining various online casinos that I can personally recommend not just in South Africa, but in the entirety of the continent. It should be a fun ride, so I’ll be looking forward to taking it with you!
